The concept of green building or green building trend driven into the world of property development today. This environmentally friendly building has put a halt to the contribution of global warming with the correct micro climate.

The biggest point in this concept is saving water and energy and use renewable energy. In Indonesia, access to renewable energy is still weak. Electrical energy supply to the property only rely on electricity company which are not yet using renewable energy sources.

In the United States, a variety of electric energy supplier companies with a variety of fuel options, including renewable fuels. Developers who choose electric energy from renewable sources will have the biggest points in the green building concept.

In many countries, the application of proven green building concepts to add value to sell. However, in Indonesia still need a long education process. In Indonesia, the confusion that comes even environmentally friendly building is expensive, difficult, and not feasible in the business.

The managers of the building as a large energy users now have the responsibility to reduce global warming in ways that save energy, water, fuel, and so on. Activities facilitated panel discussion of PT Colliers International Indonesia and PT Cisco Systems Indonesia is at once to introduce the reference through the concept of green building Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).

The application of the concept of LEED is essentially a recognition of his efforts to provide environmentally-friendly property works or who hold the concept of green building.

85 introduces the concept of LEED rating points with a certified rating, silver, gold, and platinum.

Efficiency

The implementation of LEED for property development also requires absolutely some things, such as water use efficiency, use of minimum energy, or efforts to protect the ozone layer. Some countries, like India, China, Dubai, and Vietnam, also had quite a lot of applying LEED concepts. LEED certification was originally formulated Green Building Council United States.

Understanding of this architecture. Green building measures open up opportunities to put the building in a wider network, related aspects of climate, natural resources, social, and cultural. Education plays an important role in the understanding of sustainability.

The main issues related to environmentally friendly buildings, among which are necessary to build only and do not use more than necessary, the principle of relevance, as well as looking at professional architects as a caretaker of the earth.

Design strategies that can be applied, among others, the use of sustainable materials, linkages with the local ecology, the relationship between transit and residence, recreation and work, as well as water use efficiency, waste management, and highlight local conditions both physically and socially.

Reset the electric lighting in the room so that when users power only in certain parts, so not all lights must be switched.

Change the light bulb lights with energy-saving lamps.

Turn off computer monitors when used as monitors use more electricity than computers. as a comparison, the average operational computer uses 55 watts and the monitor uses 75 watts.

Avoid too much use photocopy. Can be used for the distribution and the email scanner.

Print more energy-intensive color than black and white print. Besides laser printer is more energy intensive than inkjet printers.

Turn on the AC 15-30 minutes after starting work, and turn off the AC 15-30 minutes before going home. These little things will really save if done every day for an office with lots of air conditioning units.

Turn off the toilet lights when no one or no use.

The things above are just a few things we can do together. Hopefully with this we can save money so that we are not only pay for the cost more efficient, but our lifestyle can take part in preserving the environment.

So if you have another idea to save energy, you can share…

Paper for our generation is something that has become mundane and the everyday that we often use paper without thinking much about the consequences. I tried to summary some facts about paper that we all understand the importance of reducing paper usage and recycle used paper. Hopefully useful and deepen our knowledge that we are more aware of the environment.

Production of paper:

* Trunk 1 (wood) to produce 16 reams of paper
* Trunk 1 can produce the needed oxygen to breathe 3 people
* To produce 1 ton of paper, it takes 3 tons of wood and 98 tons of other raw materials
* Every hour, the world lost because of 1732.5 hectares of forest to be harvested raw materials of paper
* Paper industry around the world using 35% of all commercial timber harvest each year
* The paper industry spent 670 million tons of wood to produce 178 million tons of pulp and 278 million tons of paper and paperboard
* 1 ton of paper = 400 reams = 200,000 sheets of
* To produce 3 sheets of paper required 1 liter of water
* To produce 1 Kilogram of paper required 324 liters of water (environment Canada)
* 95% of paper made from wood fiber materials
* To produce 1 ton of paper produced carbon dioxide (CO2) for about 2.6 tons or equal to the emissions produced by cars during the 6 months.
* To produce 1 ton of paper, produced approximately 72,200 liters of liquid waste and 1 ton of solid waste
* The paper industry is a user of energy to fuel the world’s largest 3rd (American Forest and Paper Association)
* Once the paper is only used for writing, now Packaging industry uses 41% of the total use of paper

Recycled paper:

* Recycling paper saves 54 kg of tree 1 (Government of Canada)
* Recycling 1 ton of paper saves approximately 17 trees (Purdue Research Foundation and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 1996)
* Recycling paper uses 60% less energy than making paper from tree trunks
* Recycling 1 ton of paper saves 682.5 gallons of fuel and 7000 gallons of water and 4000 kwh of electricity (Onondaga Resource Recovery Center)
* 30% -40% of discarded paper is paper or packaging Packaging (The Recycler’s Handbook, 1990)
* When the paper decompose or compost will produce Methane gas is 25 times more dangerous than CO2 (International Institute for Environment and Development, 1971)

Results of research from Harvard University physicist Alex Wissner-Gross concluded each time the search engine work Google average yield 7 grams of carbon dioxide. This means that two searches had produced only 14 grams of carbon equivalent to that produced when someone a cup of boil water with an electric stove.

These carbon emissions from electricity consumption calculated the required computer users to energy expended Google’s data center that operates around the world. Use large energy means emissions of carbon dioxide is also considering the majority of power plants in use today are still based on fossil energy sources.

But Google denied the findings. In its official blog Google assessing the results of these calculations are too high. Google does not deny that the service but just suck the energy release equivalent to 0.2 grams of carbon for every search.

Google claims every time a search takes an average of 0.2 seconds. Access to the server each time the search for only the thousandth of a second scale. If Google average of 0.0003 kWh of energy needed for each search, the amount of carbon released is equivalent to 0.2 grams each time a user searches.

In 2007, Google established Climate Savers Computing Initiative, a non-profit consortium committed to suppress the use of energy at the consumer level by half from 2010 and reduce carbon dioxide emissions 54 million tons per year.

However, Wissner-Gross said services like Google still will suck enormous energy. He said to improve search engine capabilities, service providers must spend more energy. Recent research conducted analyst firm Gartner shows IT services currently contributes two percent of carbon emissions worldwide.
