How many sheets of paper that you use every day? How many cups of coffee you drink everyday? How much you enjoy fried foods? How much material from palm oil are you using? Very much perhaps. Especially if you live in the big city life style could not be separated from the goods.

However, did you know that by reducing the consumption of coffee, palm oil and its derivatives materials, and the use of paper, you can take to save the forests in Sumatra? Because the forests that used to be a habitat for many species of animals and soil water storage is now much changed its function, good for coffee plantations, palm oil, or tree of paper raw materials to meet the needs of the city. No wonder the forests in some inland areas damaged.

The situation is now Sumatra forests requires attention from many people. The production of paper, palm oil, coffee and processed for the purposes of urban society has been destroying forests in Sumatra. May campaign has held as the title “Let’s Explore the Forest Sumatra “. The campaign carried the WWF was held with the aim of raising public awareness that their lifestyle affects the forest ecosystem in Sumatra.

Condition of the forests in Sumatra very alarming. In the period 1995 to 2007 the number of organisms covering the surface of the lost forests of Sumatra to reach 48 percent. Now the amount of resources that can be used only remaining 30 percent. It has been used for paper production, coffee, and palm oil.

Data from WWF , the number of animals in the forests of Sumatra also decreased dramatically. Sumatran tigers (Panthera tigris sumatrae) in nature live 400 tail, while the population of rhinos Sumatra less than 300 tails. Population decline also occurs in orangutans and elephants Sumatra. Amount remaining orangutans is 6500 and the population of elephants tail tails 2400-2800.

In fact many people can do to save the city forests of Sumatra. People should be saving and reduce consumption of products that eliminate the habitat of life, such as reducing use of paper. The reason, a ream of paper has sacrificed two square meters of natural forest habitat and damage to tigers, elephants, and orangutans in Sumatra.

In addition, another way to do the public is to not keep animals that have almost become extinct. Creatures like tigers and orangutans can not be purchased for the community as pets. Nature is their home.

Re-greening of Sumatra forests could also be a separate alternative. The bare woods have influenced the general population. Not only animals, human beings, too, experienced the negative impacts of deforestation. Floods, landslides, and forest fires are examples of the perceived negative impact of humans.

The awareness of society to participate to save Sumatra forests should be increased. People realize that freedom is not just about freedom from colonialism, but also about environmental concerns.
